On Sunday, I took my six year old "Nugget" and his friend "Meatloaf," who also happens to be the son, of the my gorgeous childhood friend and Akira muse, Stacia Lupu, to the Akira Fall/Winter 2013 Fashion Show. The show, "Supersonic Boom" was a futuristic vision of Akira's creative director Chris Ho and creator Jon Cotay. The 450,000 square foot space at the Grossinger City Autoplex was filled with bookers, creative directors, editors, socialites and all around Akira fans.
Sitting front row with my son at the biggest fashion event in Chicago, made me realize that this is what "Full Circle" really means. As some of you may not know Akira basically started my fashion career and changed my life.
It's incredible how far Akira has come from a tiny little store
on North Avenue to a mega fashion empire! Unless you've been living under a rock you can't miss
the bright red awnings that run through North Avenue today. Almost 10
years and 18 stores later, Akira is still family and one of my favorite
stores to go to. Not only are they always on top of trends with
incredible prices but the service is like no other.
The show hit every trend without missing a beat. Think lady like
peplums, loads of black and white, Givenchy goth-like vibes, holiday/party dresses, leather, and lace. Check out the
photos below for a taste of what Akira has to offer this season. If
you're not local, not to worry, visit www.shopakira.com to get the latest and the greatest for your closets!
Thank you Akira, for all you've done for me and for making Chicago that much more fashion forward!!!
